Currently we are looking at the following type of projects for various locations around Sindh and Balochistan. The initial feasibility has been done with estimated project costs; their implementation is held back by our lack of funds and/or technical equipment.

We are looking for active donors who would be willing to provide partial funds towards these projects. Apart from cash donations, we also accept equipment donations.

Future Plans

Alternative Fuel Sources
We have been working with MIT to develop a system that uses waste material such as rice husks, discarded maize and its husk, and etc. These are made into charcoal briquettes and used as a fuel source. IET plans to ascertain the potential of acceptance of this type of fuel.

Wind Turbines
Indus Earth has been liaising with ITDG to develop a training program to make 500W wind generators from truck parts. Electricity from this generator could power a household of 8-10 people. IET is studying the feasibility of this project both in terms of community acceptance and in terms of the learning curve for the community organizers.

Castor Oil Production. Biodiesel.
This type of income generation project would allow local communities to produce their own castor oil and make biodiesel, using plants that do not use excessive water or affect the environment adversely. Typically, villagers grow castor oil seeds and sell them in local markets to be made into castor oil. However, Indus Earth hopes to introduce the simple technology that would allow communities to produce and sell their own castor oil directly and manufacture bio diesel.

Soap Making
Indus Earth has been researching the potential of making soap out of castor, coconut and mohua oil. These relatively available ingredients combined with caustic soda and sodium silicate could provide a means for the improvement of communities' health and hygiene as well as creating a means for economic development.

Vermiculture
The production of organic compost using earthworms and decomposable organic waste would create a low-tech income generation scheme. IET has determined a market for its sale and is working to ascertain projected interest and involvement in targeted communities.

Marine Conservation Area
Studies in conjunction with IUCN and WWF

Desertification
Area Surrounding Dam in Lasbela

Sprinkler Systems
Irrigating 10-15 acres of land at a time

Environmental Improvement
Educational programmes in schools and communities

Marine Conservation
It is now established that conserving areas in the ocean allows the biodiversity to flourish unhindered within five years marine life can be enhanced almost ten fold. This is proven all over the world.

Fishing communities benefit in two aspects:

•  Increase in fish catch
•  Eco tourism of undersea life

It is being proposed in conjunction with the IUCN & WWF that an island of the coast of Pakistan be considered as a possible location for a marine park.

Astola Island – Sea Caves on the North-West

This island has fairly abundant marine life and considerable corals within a few mile radiuses from the shores.
